Unhas Faculty of Forestry Initiates Collaboration with Three Reputable Universities in Thailand

Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University (Unhas) through the Partnership, Research, Innovation and Alumni Division visited reputable universities in Thailand including Mahidol University-Kanchanaburi Campus (MUKA) ranked 106 in QS WUR By subject Life Sciences and Medicine and ranked 358 in the world, King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB) ranked 251-300 in QS WUR By Subject Agriculture and Forestry and ranked 1201-1400 in the world, and Kasetsart University ranked 60 in QS WUR By Subject Agriculture and Forestry in 2025 and ranked 701-710 in the world in order to initiate research collaboration, publications, staff and student exchanges.

The leaders of the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University, who conducted a collaborative visit to Thailand were Prof. Dr. Ir. A. Mujetahid M., S.Hut., M.P., IPU. (Dean of the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University), Prof. Syahidah. S.Hut., M.Si., Ph.D. (Vice Dean for Partnership, Research, Innovation and Alumni), Prof. Dr. Ir. Syamsu Rijal, S.Hut., M.Si., IPU. (Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs), Ir. Mukrimin, S.Hut., M.P., Ph.D., IPU. (Head of the Master of Forestry Study Program), Ruth Eppi Lobo, S.Sos., M.M. (Head of the Administration Section) and Sainuddin, S.T. (Head of the Sub-Section for Partnership, Research, Innovation and Alumni).

The Deputy Dean for Partnership, Research, Innovation, and Alumni of the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University, Prof. Syahidah. S.Hut., M.Sc., Ph.D., stated that the visit to several universities in Thailand aims to initiate, develop, and facilitate the implementation of collaboration for all study programs at the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University, including collaboration in the fields of research, learning, community service, and staff-student mobility.

“One way to increase the number of foreign partners and establish collaborations with the Faculty of Forestry is by visiting potential partner universities to initiate collaborations. One potential country for collaboration is Thailand, where several universities have a history of collaborations with several lecturers, but these have not yet been legally established, making it crucial to follow up,” explained Prof. Syahidah.

As a result of this visit, the three universities agreed to collaborate with the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University, and this has been followed up with draft Memorandums of Understanding (MoA) between faculties and MoUs between universities. They hope that this collaboration will increase the number of lecturers’ publications in reputable international journals, as well as foster collaborative research, publications, and staff and student exchanges.

Furthermore, Prof. Syahidah said that the leaders of the three universities welcomed her arrival with her entourage and welcomed the initiative of cooperation offered by the Faculty of Forestry, Unhas.

This visit will take place from November 30 – December 5, 2025 in Thailand.
