Faculty of Forestry Unhas Evaluates and Strengthens Strategies for Student Achievement Development

The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas), conducted an evaluation and strategic reinforcement meeting on student achievement development on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at the Senate Room, 2nd Floor, Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Hasanuddin.

The activity focused on mapping various types of competitions that align with students’ interests and abilities in order to increase their opportunities to achieve excellence at different competitive levels.

The Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs of the Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Hasanuddin, Prof. Dr. Ir. Syamsu Rijal, S.Hut., M.Si., IPU, stated that the faculty will carry out a comprehensive evaluation of student participation in competitions, starting from the registration process at the faculty level through Belmawa activities to mentoring throughout each competition.

“Every student who participates in a competition will be followed up by the team. The achievements obtained will also be taken into consideration for providing rewards from the faculty.

In addition, we will appoint and group competition mentors to provide continuous guidance for students,” explained Prof. Syamsu Rijal.

He further emphasized that for the Outstanding Student Selection (Pilmapres), a faculty-level selection will be implemented in the future as part of efforts to prepare the best representatives of the Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Hasanuddin, to compete at the university and national levels. The faculty, he added, is ready to facilitate persons in charge (PICs) and competition mentors in terms of information and technical needs, including providing dedicated spaces that students can use for competition preparation.

The Forestalent Program also became a key focus in the evaluation. The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Hasanuddin, considers it necessary to ensure continuous development of the program while maintaining its quality and implementing proportional budget efficiency.

Meanwhile, Prof. Makkarennu, S.Hut., M.Si., Ph.D., highlighted the importance of collecting data on students’ competition track records since their school years as a foundation for achievement development within the Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Hasanuddin.

“This data is essential so that the PIC team can assess and group high-achieving students and direct them to participate in competitions at the university level or higher,” he noted.

He also proposed the need for regular quarterly meetings to monitor students’ ideas and progress, as well as the importance of expanding the search for information on open competitions so that more students of the Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Hasanuddin, can be delegated and actively participate.

Through these strategic measures, the Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Hasanuddin, hopes to foster a culture of excellence, enhance students’ innovative spirit, and strengthen competitiveness in various academic and non-academic competitions.
