Selayar – The Undergraduate Forestry Study Program, Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University, conducted a Field Work Practice (PKL) Seminar and the official withdrawal of students at UPTD KPH Selayar. The event served as both an evaluation forum and an appreciation of the students’ contributions throughout their field assignment. The academic supervisor, Ahmad Rifqi Makkasau, S.Hut., M.Hut., was present to accompany the seminar and withdrawal process. The Head of the Undergraduate Forestry Study Program, Dr. Ir. Sitti Nuraeni, M.P., also expressed her appreciation and support, emphasizing that the PKL program significantly strengthens students’ academic and professional competencies.
During the seminar, students presented a range of activities carried out during their placement, including forest patrols, forestry extension services, forest and land rehabilitation (RHL), mangrove monitoring, KPH administrative work, and facilitation of farmer group meetings. These activities provided comprehensive practical experience, covering technical aspects of forest protection as well as strengthening community-based institutional capacity around forest areas.
Forestry extension activities became one of the main highlights. In collaboration with forest rangers, students installed information boards containing notices prohibiting unauthorized activities within forest areas. The boards were placed in two strategic locations Harapan Village and Layolo Baru Village, Bontosikuyu Sub-district which serve as access routes to limited production forest areas. This initiative is expected to enhance public awareness and compliance with forest utilization regulations.
In addition to extension work, students actively participated in forest patrols to monitor field conditions and prevent potential violations. On the rehabilitation front, forest and land rehabilitation (RHL) and mangrove monitoring were conducted to maintain ecological functions, particularly in supporting the sustainability of both terrestrial and coastal forest ecosystems in Selayar.
In an interview session, Ahmad Rifqi Makkasau, S.Hut., M.Hut., stated that the PKL program provides contextual learning opportunities for students. “Through the PKL program at KPH Selayar, students not only understand theoretical concepts of forest management but also directly engage with social, administrative, and ecological dynamics in the field. This experience is essential in shaping their professional competence and integrity as future foresters,” he explained.
He further emphasized that the collaboration between the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University and UPTD KPH Selayar represents a strategic synergy in promoting sustainable forest management. The seminar and official withdrawal marked the conclusion of the PKL program, which not only enhanced students’ capacities but also contributed to strengthening forest governance in Selayar Regency. The initiative aligns with the commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 13 (Climate Action) and Goal 15 (Life on Land), through sustainable forest protection, rehabilitation, and management efforts.
