Tamalanrea-Makassar. The Forestry Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University (Unhas) held a workshop and public lecture discussing Social Innovation Research in Malaysia. The activity took place starting at 09.00 WITA in the Senate Meeting Room of the Faculty of Forestry, Unhas and was connected directly via zoom meeting, Wednesday (11/6/2025).
Starting the activity, the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs of the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dr. Ir. Syamsu Rijal, S.Hut., M.Sc., IPU. in his speech expressed his gratitude for the presence of the speakers. A quite proud collaboration from the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) who have organized this activity.
“I hope that the cooperation between the Faculty of Forestry, Unhas and UiTM will increase, and of course we are always open to further collaborations, be it public lectures, conferences, joint publications, double degrees and other collaborations,” explained Prof. Syamsu Rijal.
Furthermore, Prof. Syamsu Rijal said that he hopes that this activity can provide benefits for all participants who attend, especially in the field of research. And also hopes that this collaboration is not only involved in the Forestry Engineering Study Program but also involves the Forestry and Forest Conservation Study Programs.
Present as a resource person, Ts. Dr. Aslizah Mohd Aris (Deputy Rector for Research, Industry Network, Community and Alumni – UiTM CNS), Dr. Noor Azrimi Umor (Lecturer, Faculty of Applied Science UiTM Negeri Sembilan), Ts. Dr. Azhar Mohamad (Chairman of the Malaysian Mushroom Researchers and Entrepreneurs Association) and Assoc. Prof. Ts. Shahrul Ismail (Senior Lecturer at UMT Marine Engineering Technology Faculty).
Ts. Dr. Aslizah Mohd Aris (Deputy Rector for Research, Industry, Community and Alumni Networks – UiTMCNS) presented material on the theme of Establishment of CSR Program for UiTM Students through SULAM activities.
Some implementations of SULAM activities are discipline-based – learning outcomes must demonstrate the application of knowledge and/or technical skills that are relevant to community needs, problem-based – learning outcomes must discuss real-world community problems, Capstone Course/Project – students carry out projects that are aligned with community needs by applying their disciplinary knowledge and/or skills.
“The implementation of SULAM activities also includes internship services implemented during student internships. However, the nature of the contribution and its impact on society must be defined early on, as well as the implementation of multi-course collaboration, SULAM projects involving one or more partners (faculty/field/course) to achieve the desired learning outcomes,” Aslizah explained.
Dr. Noor Azrimi Umor (Lecturer, Faculty of Applied Sciences UiTM Negeri Sembilan) presented material with the theme of Society skills and knowledge transfer through mushroom Research Activities. In mushroom development, there are several plans that must be considered and prepared, namely, high-quality seeds, best practices for mushroom cultivation, post-harvest products and utilization of mushroom waste.
The activity went smoothly and ended with a group discussion.
