The Forestry Engineering Study Program (Prodi) of the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University (Unhas) is holding community service activities with the theme “Mushroom Product Diversification”. The activity took place in Kappang Hamlet, Labuaja Village, Cenrana District, Maros Regency, Saturday (2/11/2024).
Starting the activity, Head of the Forestry Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University, Dr. Ir. Siti Halimah Larekeng, S.P., M.P. In his speech, he said that this activity aims to provide knowledge transfer and teach the people of Kappang Hamlet about processing oyster mushrooms into several processed products that have high quality and selling value.
“Previous community service activities, especially female farmers from the Kappang Station Community and Academic Innovation House (RIMBA), one of the groups assisted by the Lecturer at the Faculty of Forestry, Unhas, Prof. Dr. Supratman, S.Hut., M.P. have been taught how to cultivate oyster mushrooms. “As a result of these activities, the local community has developed mushroom kumbung and produced their own oyster mushrooms,” explained Dr. Halimah.
Dr. Halimah said that in this activity, the Forestry Engineering Study Program facilitated the Creative Forest Group to make various kinds of processed products from mushrooms. The processed products taught include mushroom meatballs, mushroom nuggets and mushroom chips. All of these preparations are made from mushrooms without meat or other ingredients.
Present as resource person was Ira Taskirawati, SHut, MSi, Ph.D. (Lecturer in the Forestry Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University and expert on fungi and their derivatives) conveyed the benefits and several mushroom-based processed products that can be produced. On this occasion, the resource person and the community immediately made various kinds of processed products from mushrooms.
This service activity was attended by lecturers from the Forestry Engineering Study Program and around 40 students from various classes. This activity is routinely carried out by the Forestry Engineering Study Program as a form of the tri dharma of higher education.
