Tamalanrea-Makassar. The Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University (Unhas) welcomed the visit of the Animal Care and Use Ethics Commission Team from the Research and Innovation Center (BRIN) in the context of monitoring and evaluating proposals or protocols for research activities of foreign lecturers and students relating to the use and care of animals. The activity took place starting at 13.00 WITA in the Senate Meeting Room, 2nd Floor, Faculty of Forestry, Unhas Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar, Friday (6/9/2024)
Present at this activity were the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University, Dr. Ir. A. Mujetahid M., S.Hut., M.P., IPU. (Dean of the Faculty of Forestry), Dr. Ir. Syamsu Rijal, S.Hut., M.Sc., IPU. (Deputy Dean for Academic and Student Affairs), Syahidah, S.Hut., M.Si., Ph.D. (Vice Dean for Partnerships, Research and Innovation), Risma Illa Maulany, S.Hut., M.NatResSt., Ph.D. (Lecturer at the Faculty of Forestry) and several foreign students.
The BRIN Animal Care and Use Ethics Committee team present was Ikhsan Guswenrivo, Ph.D. (Center for Applied Zoology Research), Marisa Angelina (Research Center for Medicinal Raw Materials and Traditional Medicine), drh. Boky Jeanne Tuasikal (Nuclear Energy Organization Center), Evi Rosana Oktarini (Ethics Commission Secretariat) and Wulansih Dwi Astuti (Applied Zoology Research Center).
Starting the activity, Ikhsan Guswenrivo, Ph.D. In his introduction, he stated that the aim and purpose of his visit with the team to the Faculty of Forestry was to monitor and evaluate proposals or protocols for research activities related to the use and care of animals.
“We carry out this monitoring and evaluation routinely, usually every two months, and the proposals selected for monitoring are more of a sampling, seeing that the number of proposals submitted to BRIN each year is quite large, namely around 350 proposals, so it is not possible to monitor all the proposals submitted,” “This time, the Unhas Faculty of Forestry was chosen to be our sample,” said Rivo.
On the same occasion, the Dean of the Faculty of Forestry, Unhas, Dr. Ir. A. Mujetahid M., S.Hut., M.P., IPU. In his speech, he expressed his gratitude for the presence of the BRIN Animal Care and Use Ethics Commission Team to monitor and evaluate proposals from foreign students from the Faculty of Forestry, Unhas, who use animals.
Several international collaborations with the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University, include the University of Leipzig, San Diego State University, University of Portsmouth, and so on.
“The Unhas Forestry Faculty has collaborated with several universities from abroad and has carried out joint research with both lecturers and students, generally conducting research on macaca maura, only different research sites or places such as in the Educational Forest, Bira and surrounding areas. Karaenta, Maros Regency, so it is necessary to carry out monitoring and evaluation like this, lest the research implementation requires input from BRIN,” explained A. Mujetahid.
After the welcoming speech, the activity was then continued with a research presentation from a foreign student from the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University, namely, Dr. Ashni Dhawale (San Diego State University), Vanessa Morgan (San Diego State University), Elisabeth Wanda Christine Vollmar (University of Leipzig) and Cesar Rodriguez Del Castillo (Universidad Veracruzana Mexico).
The activity went smoothly until 15.00 WITA, ending with a discussion and group photo session.
