Supporting the achievement of SDG 13, Unhas Forestry Study Program Holds Training on Making Liquid Organic Fertilizer in Kab. Maros

Desa Limampoccoe-Kabupaten Maros. The Forestry Study Program, Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University (Unhas) held community service activities in the form of Training on Making Liquid Organic Fertilizer. The activity took place starting at 09.00 WITA in Jambua Hamlet, Limampoccoe Village, Maros Regency, Saturday (29/6/2024).

This training aims to help the people of Limampoccoe Village, Maros Regency in the process of making liquid organic fertilizer using organic materials. Not only that, this training also aims to support the achievement of SDGs, especially SDG 13 in fighting climate change by reducing the use of chemical fertilizers.

This activity was held in collaboration between Lecturers in the Forestry Study Program, Faculty of Forestry, Unhas, Practitioners from the Payo-Payo People’s School and Farmers in Tompobulu Village, Pangkep Regency who have long used liquid organic fertilizer.

This training was attended by at least 25 people consisting of Forestry Study Program lecturers, farmers and students. Lecturer and Community Service Team for the Forestry Study Program, namely, Prof. Dr. Syamsu Alam, M.S., Prof. Dr. forests. Muhammad Alif KS., S.Hut., M.Si. and Andi Vika Faradiba Muin, S.Hut., M.Hut.

Farmers together with lecturers and students directly carried out a demonstration of making liquid organic fertilizer.

“This training is a collaboration with practitioners and farmers who have been using POC for a long time so they can directly tell and share their experiences with Maros district farmers,” said Andi Vika Faradiba.

Furthermore, this young lecturer at the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University, hopes that through this training he can motivate farmers to use organic fertilizer by utilizing organic materials that are easily found in villages so that they will slowly no longer depend on chemical fertilizers.

“Training on making liquid organic fertilizer was a request from farmers in Limampoccoe Village. In the training process, the facilitators not only demonstrated how to make liquid organic fertilizer, but also demonstrated how to make fermented animal feed, considering that the farmers who attended the activity mostly had livestock ,” explained Andi Vika Faradiba.
