Tamalanrea-Makassar. The Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University (Unhas) again hosted the Unhas Movement for Study and Congregational Prayer (GUMSB) activities. This GUMSB implementation carries the theme “Gut Microbiota and Brain Intelligence”. The activity took place starting at 16.00 WITA at the Ash Shahabi Mosque, Unhas Forestry Complex, and was connected directly virtually via zoom meeting, Thursday (25/4/2024).

GUMSB activities begin with the reading of the holy verses of the Koran which are read by students, in this case GUMSB participants, in turn.

A. Mujetahid further said that the GUMSB Unhas activities which are routinely held every week are very useful and beneficial for all Unhas academics as a means of reminder and self-reflection to get closer to the Almighty Creator.

On the same occasion, the Deputy Chancellor for Planning, Development and Finance, Unhas, Prof. Subehan, S.Sc., MPharm., SC., Ph.D., Apt. In his speech, he expressed his gratitude to the dean, leadership, lecturers and staff of the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University, for supporting and being willing to be the organizer and facilitate the implementation needs of GUMSB activities.

“GUMSB is a religious activity that is routinely carried out every week by Unhas. This activity is a very important part for all of us to take a moment to reflect on ourselves and remind each other that after this worldly life there is an afterlife where we are eternal and all our actions during life will be accounted for before Allah Ta’ala,” explained Prof. Subehan.

Present as a resource person, Prof. Dr. Veni Hadju, M.Sc., Ph.D. (Lecturer at the Faculty of Public Health, Unhas) presented material with the theme “Microbiota and Brain Intelligence”.

Gut microbiota are microorganisms including bacteria, archaea and fungi that live in the human digestive tract. The gut is the main location of human microbiota (Cresci GAM, 2019).

“The gut microbiota consists of trillions of bacteria, it is now clear that the gut microbiota plays a very important role in intestinal homeostasis and metabolism, even though this was known at the age of 3 years. Everything we eat requires microbiota,” explained Prof. Vani Hadju.

Intestinal microbiota has a function related to the digestive system, helping to digest food essences in the body, helping to increase the body’s endurance and converting several food ingredients into vitamins needed by the body.

After the presentation of the material, the activity was then continued with a joint discussion session. This activity was attended by 300 participants and ran smoothly until 18.00 WITA.
