Student of the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University, Best Presenter of the 4th International Seminar on Science and Technology, Tadulako University, Palu

Untad-Palu. Student of the Forestry Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University, Silviyah Maytasya succeeded in becoming “Best Presenter” at The 4th International Seminar on Science and Technology organized by Tadulako University (Untad), Palu.

Silviyah Maytasya presented her research entitled “Permeability of Some Fast Growing Wood Species: A Case Study of Coloring Wood”.

Through an interview on Wednesday (23/11/2022), Silviyah Maytasya explained that the background to this research was that she saw inferior quality wood dominating Indonesia’s plantation forests, which prompted her and her team to carry out this research.

“Inferior quality wood dominates plantation forests in Indonesia. Efforts to improve inferior quality wood can be done by staining, but there are factors that influence the coloring of the wood, namely permeability, so my team and I want to know the permeability of several types of wood that have inferior properties,” explained Silviyah.

Silviyah further said that through this research, she could provide a solution to improve the quality of wood by staining.

Silviyah Maytasya explained that the process for her being able to present her research began with her supervisor, Dr. A. Detti Yunianti, S.Hut., M.P. who offered to take part in a seminar held by Tadulako University.

“At first I didn’t have much confidence, but my supervisor always reassured me and gave me input so that I could become the best presenter at the seminar,” explained Silviyah.

In conducting this research, Silviyah and her team members were guided by Dr. A. Detti Yunianti, S.Hut., M.P. and Dr. Song of Tirtayasa Putra Pangestu, S.Hut., M.Sc.
