IFSA LC UNHAS Holds Talkshow at IFSS 2025 Discussing Renewable Energy and Inclusive Energy Transition

Tamalanrea-Makassar. The Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University (Unhas), through the International Forestry Students’ Association (IFSA) Local Committee (LC) UNHAS, held a talk show with the theme “From Mines to Megawatts: Leading the Renewable Energy Shift.” This talk show is part of the 2025 International Forestry Students Symposium (IFSS) series of activities, which took place starting at 09.00 WITA in the 1st Floor Hall of the Faculty of Forestry, Unhas Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar, Friday (29/8/2025).

The International Forestry Students Symposium (IFSS) 2025, attended by international forestry students from 21 countries, serves as a platform to bring together aspiring young professionals, researchers, industry, and the general public to exchange knowledge, share innovative solutions, and foster global collaboration.

Through this event, IFSS 2025 aims to highlight the contributions of industry and researchers that can serve as a guide for young changemakers in driving sustainable and renewable energy practices and innovations.

The event was officially opened by the Vice Dean for Partnership, Research, Innovation, and Alumni of the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University, Prof. Syahidah, S.Hut., M.Si., Ph.D., in her remarks. She expressed her gratitude for the speakers’ attendance and stated that the world is facing a significant climate crisis that demands significant change in how we manage energy.

Indonesia has a strong commitment to achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060, and the International Forestry Students’ Symposium 2025 Indonesia committed this can only be realized through close synergy between the government, industry, academia, and the community.

“The Faculty of Forestry at Hasanuddin University is honored to be one of the hosts of this event, as we believe that renewable energy and forestry are not two separate sectors, but rather interconnected. Healthy forests support energy sustainability, from maintaining water availability for hydroelectric power plants, providing biomass, to absorbing carbon emissions. Therefore, cross-sector collaboration is key to realizing an inclusive, equitable, and sustainable energy transition,” explained Prof. Syahidah.

Prof. Syahidah further stated that the presence of the speakers today is a valuable opportunity for all of us, especially for the younger generation and students, to learn directly from real practices, challenges, and innovations that are being implemented.

“I hope this forum will not only be a space for sharing knowledge, but also spark the birth of new ideas, collaborative networks, and inspiration to produce green energy leaders in the future,” said Prof. Syahidah.

Following the welcoming remarks and official opening, the event continued with presentations from the speakers. The speakers were:

1. Prof. A. M. Shiddiq Yunus, S.T., M.Eng.Sc., Ph.D. (Lecturer at Ujung Pandang State Polytechnic)

2. Ambo Tuwo (Senior Manager of Finance, Communications, and General Affairs, PLN Main Distribution Unit for South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, and West Sulawesi)
