Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University Holds Workshop to Upgrade Perennial Journal Toward Scopus Indexing

The Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University organized a Workshop on Upgrading the Status of Perennial Journal Toward an International Reputable Journal Indexed by Scopus, while simultaneously accelerating the accreditation improvement of Forest and Society from SINTA 4 to SINTA 3.

Initiated by the Division of Partnership, Research, Innovation, and Alumni Affairs, the workshop took place at the Senate Room, 2nd Floor, Faculty of Forestry, Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar, on Monday (23/2/2026). The event brought together faculty leaders, journal editors, and publication managers to strengthen institutional strategies in advancing scientific publication standards.

The workshop was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Forestry, Prof. Dr. Ir. A. Mujetahid M., S.Hut., M.P., IPU.; the Vice Dean for Partnership, Research, Innovation, and Alumni Affairs, Prof. Syahidah, S.Hut., M.Si., Ph.D.; the Editor-in-Chief of Forest and Society (Scopus Q2), Prof. Dr. forest. Muhammad Alif KS., S.Hut., M.Si.; the editors of JPK Wallaceae (Scopus Q4), Prof. Dr. Ir. Ngakan Putu Oka, M.Sc. and A. Siady Hamzah, S.Hut., M.Si.; the editorial team of Perennial, Prof. Dr. Suhasman, S.Hut., M.Si. and Agussalim, S.Hut., M.Si.; Head of the Publication Management Unit, Dr. Kidung Tirtayasa Putra Pangestu, S.Hut., M.Si.; as well as the Head of Subdivision for Partnership, Research, Innovation, and Alumni, Sainuddin, S.T.

In her remarks, Prof. Syahidah emphasized that the workshop was designed to enhance the capacity of journal managers in meeting international publishing standards. She underlined that strengthening editorial governance, improving article quality, and ensuring compliance with global indexing requirements are critical steps in preparing Perennial for Scopus submission and in upgrading the accreditation of Forest and Society.

Dean Prof. Mujetahid expressed the faculty’s full commitment to supporting the process, including editorial mentoring, quality assurance enhancement, compliance with indexing standards, and the provision of financial and institutional support. According to him, strengthening reputable journals is an integral part of the faculty’s broader strategy to boost global academic visibility.

Currently, the faculty manages two Scopus-indexed journals, namely Forest and Society (Q2) and JPK Wallaceae (Q4). With the preparation of Perennial for Scopus indexing, all undergraduate study programs within the faculty are projected to be supported by internationally reputable journals.

Perennial has demonstrated significant readiness, including 93 Scopus citations, three forthcoming international articles from Russia and Malaysia scheduled for publication in April 2026, and a solid editorial structure led by Chief Editor Prof. Yusuf Sudo Hadi (H-Index 24), Prof. Suhasman, and international editor Prof. Malinee Sriariyanun (H-Index 33) from King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok.

The workshop concluded with a strategic discussion session focusing on fulfilling Scopus criteria and accelerating SINTA accreditation improvement, reaffirming the Faculty of Forestry’s commitment to strengthening research publication quality and advancing the university’s internationalization agenda.
