Forest Conservation Study Program of FH Unhas Holds General Conservation Practice (PUK) Batch III

The Forest Conservation Study Program, Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Hasanuddin (FH Unhas), organized the General Conservation Practice (Praktek Umum Konservasi/PUK) Batch III for undergraduate students of the 2023 cohort as part of the inter-semester break program and to strengthen field-based learning. The official send-off for the students took place at the Faculty of Forestry Hall, Unhas Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar, on Saturday, January 10, 2026.

PUK Batch III is scheduled to run from January 10 to February 8, 2026, and will be conducted at the Hasanuddin University Educational Forest and Bantimurung Bulusaraung National Park. The program involves 80 participants, including student assistants.

To support the smooth implementation of the program, the PUK organizing committee will utilize facilities at the Unhas Educational Forest. The Research Building will serve as accommodation for participating students, while the SEED Building will be used to accommodate assistants throughout the activity. The use of these facilities is carried out with due attention to cleanliness, orderliness, and responsibility for the facilities and infrastructure provided.

Dean of the Faculty of Forestry Unhas, Dr. H. A. Mujetahid M, S.Hut., M.P., stated that the implementation of PUK is an integral part of the faculty’s efforts to provide students with direct learning experiences. “Through field activities, students are able to apply theories learned in the classroom while also fostering awareness and commitment to forest and ecosystem conservation,” he said.

Furthermore, the Dean emphasized the importance of strengthening student competencies. “We expect that through this PUK program, students will not only gain technical skills in the field of conservation, but also develop professional character, responsibility, and ethical values in protecting the environment. The Faculty of Forestry Unhas remains committed to promoting contextual and sustainable practice-based education,” he added.

Through the implementation of the General Conservation Practice, students are expected to gain hands-on field experience and enhance their understanding as well as practical skills in forest conservation. This activity reflects the commitment of the Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Hasanuddin, to strengthening student competencies and advancing higher education oriented toward contextual and sustainable learning.
