Faculty of Forestry Unhas and Ghent University, Belgium Joint Discussion Discussing Initiation of PS-Based Commodity Development Cooperation

Tamalanrea-Makassar. The Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University (Unhas) and Ghent University, Belgium had a joint discussion to discuss the initiation of cooperation in the field of commodity development based on Social Forestry (PS). The activity took place starting at 13.00 WITA in the Deputy Dean’s Office for Partnerships, Research, Innovation and Alumni, Faculty of Forestry, Unhas Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar, Wednesday (26/2/2025).

Present at this activity were Prof. Dr. Ir. A. Mujetahid M., S.Hut., M.P. (Dean of the Faculty of Forestry, Unhas), Syahidah, S.Hut., M.Sc., Ph.D. (Deputy Dean for Partnership, Research, Innovation and Alumni, Faculty of Forestry, Unhas), Sidi Rana Menggala, Ph.D. (Associate Professor for Tropical Plants and Crops, Ghent University, Belgium – National Coordinator of Small Grants Program of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) by United Nation Development (UNDP)-Indonesia), Hery Budiarto, (Program Assistant of The GEF-SGP) and Faishal M. Dzulfiqar (Program Assistant of The GEF-SGP).

The arrival of the Associate Professor for Tropical Plants and Crops, Ghent University, Belgium and his entourage were welcomed by the Dean and Deputy Dean for Partnership, Research, Innovation and Alumni, Faculty of Forestry, Unhas.

Starting the activities of Sidi Rana Menggala, Ph.D. in his introduction stated that his arrival with his entourage was aimed at initiating cooperation in the field of developing Social Forestry-based commodities.

“The development of PS-based commodities aims to ensure that products or commodities produced by the community can be standardized and if possible can be certified so as to increase the value of community commodities,” explained Sidi Manggala.

On this occasion the Deputy Dean for Partnerships, Research, Innovation and Alumni, Syahidah, S.Hut., M.Si., Ph.D. said that the Unhas Faculty of Forestry is expected to be the host for the South Sulawesi region and efforts are being made in the near future to organize an exhibition of PS products.
