Tamalanrea-Makassar. The Head of the Forestry Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University (Unhas), Prof. Dr. Ir. Siti Halimah Larekeng, S.P., M.P. received a visit from students of State Senior High School (SMA) 5 Bone in order to learn about plant tissue culture. The activity took place starting at 09.00 WITA in Room GA 201, Faculty of Forestry, Unhas Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar, Friday (6/2/2026).
A total of 104 12th grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Bone accompanied by their teachers attended the Faculty of Forestry, Unhas to learn and undertake training in tissue culture and forestry plant cultivation techniques in the Biotechnology and Tree Breeding laboratory.
In her remarks, Prof. Dr. Ir. Siti Halimah Larekeng, S.P., M.P. expressed her gratitude for the visit of SMA Negeri 5 Bone students to the Faculty of Forestry, she hoped that this activity could provide benefits and new knowledge about tissue culture to students.
“Not only training on tissue culture, we will share about the activities carried out by students in the Biotechnology and Tree Breeding laboratory as an initial introduction to the world of campus and to increase students’ insight into plant breeding and cultivation through tissue culture techniques,” explained Prof. Halimah.
On the same occasion, Mr. Adi, one of the Biology teachers at SMA Negeri 5 Bone, expressed his gratitude to the leadership and academic community of the Faculty of Forestry, Unhas, for welcoming him and his group.
“Thank you for welcoming us to the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University. I hope our students can make the most of this opportunity to learn about tissue culture firsthand and bring the knowledge and skills they have gained here back to school,” said Mr. Adi.
This activity was combined with a socialization event for the Forestry Engineering study program to students of SMA Negeri 5 Bone as an effort to introduce more details about this study program and of course, it is hoped that many students from SMA Negeri 5 Bone will register for the Forestry Engineering study program.
This activity lasts for one day and will end at 16.00 WITA.
