To Improve Lecturers’ Competence in Scientific Writing, the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University, Holds a Workshop on Using the Paperpal Application

Tamalanrea-Makassar. The Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University (Unhas), through its Department of Forestry, held a workshop on the use of the Paperpal application. The event began at 10:00 a.m. WITA in the first-floor auditorium of the Faculty of Forestry, Unhas Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar, on Monday (July 28, 2025).

The Head of the Forestry Department, Faculty of Forestry, Unhas, Dr. Ir. A. Sadapotto, M.P., in his remarks, said that this activity was held to help and facilitate lecturers in writing scientific papers because through the Paperpal application, writers can get direct feedback regarding clarity, flow, grammar, and accuracy of writing format.

“This activity is very important for academics because it is quite helpful in writing scientific papers. Paperpal can detect plagiarism in written work. Paperpal is designed to improve clarity and accuracy, not to hide content similarities. I hope that lecturers at the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University, can take advantage of this activity to improve their scientific writing,” said A. Sadapotto.

On this occasion, the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs of the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dr. Ir. Syamsu Rijal, S.Hut., M.Sc., IPU. in his remarks expressed his gratitude to the Head of the Forestry Department for initiating this activity. He noted that the Paperpal application is very helpful for lecturers and students in writing scientific papers, considering that many students are currently completing their final assignments to complete their studies.

“This application is very useful and helpful in writing scientific papers. We hope this application can assist and facilitate students in completing studies outside of the thesis pathway,” explained Prof. Syamsu Rijal.

Prof. Syamsu Rijal further stated that the Paperpal app can improve scientific writing with its grammar checker. Some of the key benefits of the Paperpal app include improved writing quality, time efficiency, learning from mistakes, and increased publication opportunities.

Present as a resource person, Dr. Kidung Tirtayasa Putra Pangestu, S.Hut., M.Si. (Lecturer at the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University) presented material related to the use of the Paperpal application, starting from an explanation of the Editage platform which includes the Paperpal application, R. Discovery, Mind the Graph and Journal Finder, to account creation and technical use of Paperpal.

The activity ran smoothly until 16.00 WITA and ended with guidance on the use of the paperpal application by Dr. Kidung Tirtayasa Putra Pangestu, S.Hut., M.Si.
