Faculty of Forestry Unhas and NUS College Singapore Strengthen Global Collaboration through GEx Sulawesi Program

Tamalanrea-Makassar. Hasanuddin University received an academic visit from students and lecturers of the National University of Singapore (NUS) College, in the framework of implementing the Global Experience Courses (GEx) Sulawesi program. This visit was officially received by the Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. drg. Muhammad Ruslin, M.Kes., Ph.D., Sp.BM (K), taking place at the 8th Floor Lounge, Rectorate Building, Unhas Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar, Tuesday (24/06).

Also present were the Chief of Forest and Society Research Group (FSRG) of the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dr. Forest. Muhammad Alif KS., S.Hut., M.Sc., Dr. Ryan Tans (NUS College), and students from the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University and NUS College who participated in the Gex Program.

On that occasion, Prof Ruslin conveyed his welcome to all delegates from NUS who attended the Global Experience Courses. He conveyed the collaboration between the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University and NUS. He also emphasized the importance of building cross-country collaboration as a form of adaptation to global dynamics.

Furthermore, Prof. Ruslin also generally introduced a short profile of Unhas as one of the best universities that continues to grow in various sectors, especially in the field of education and student leadership development.

“Of course we hope that this collaborative activity will not only be a place to exchange experiences, but also become a bridge for the formation of a long-term strategic partnership between Unhas and NUS. The sustainability of this kind of activity will have a positive impact, both in expanding international networks and creating opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation in the future,” explained Prof Ruslin.

Representing NUS College, Ryan Tans expressed his pleasure in being a partner of Unhas in the collaborative program being carried out. He also hopes that in the future activities like this can be carried out sustainably.

Global Experience Courses (GEx) Sulawesi is a collaboration between the Forest and Society Research Group (FSRG) of the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University and NUS College, and is designed to strengthen knowledge exchange and expand international networks.

In general, this program involves 10 people (lecturers and students) from NUS College who visit Unhas (inbound) and several areas in South Sulawesi to work in the field with 10 people (lecturers and students) from the Faculty of Forestry, Unhas. Participants will gain direct field experience by exploring various areas that are examples of multi-sector development.

This activity will start from June 1 to June 28. Participants will visit several areas such as Makassar, Maros, Gowa, and Bulukumba to observe and study the various impacts of multi-sector economic development including forestry, agriculture, tourism, marine fisheries, and mining. Where, they will study development issues in the forestry, agriculture, tourism, fisheries, and mining sectors.

This activity is also a place to introduce the local potential of South Sulawesi to international academics. Participants from NUS will be invited to see firsthand the practices of sustainable development and local wisdom applied by the community in managing natural resources.
