Tamalanrea-Makassar. The Chancellor of Hasanuddin University (Unhas) in this case was represented by the Deputy Chancellor for Partnership, Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Business, Prof. Dr. Eng. Adi Maulana, S.T., M.Phil. officially received the Executive Director of RECOFTC Thailand, David Ganz and his staff in the context of a joint discussion about the potential for research collaboration. The activity took place starting at 08.00 WITA in the Chancellor’s Meeting Room, 8th Floor, Rectorate Building, Unhas Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar, Friday (21/2/2025).
Present at this activity was Prof. Dr. Eng. Adi Maulana, S.T., M.Phil. (Deputy Chancellor for Partnership, Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Business Unhas), Prof. Dr. Ir. A. Mujetahid M., S.Hut., M.P., IPU. (Dean of the Faculty of Forestry Unhas), David Ganz (Director of RECOFTC Thailand), Gamma Galudra (Director of RECOFTC Indonesia), Hao Zhuang (Hope) (Project Manager of Explore Program – RECOFTC), Sophie Lewis (Project Manager of Gender and Social Inclusion – RECOFTC), Peter Cutter (Board Advisor of RECOFTC Thailand), Yustina Artati (Board of EXPLORE Program Indonesia, CIFOR – ICRAF), Himlal Bara (Board of EXPLORE Program Indonesia, CIFOR – ICRAF), Bambang Supriyanto (ITPC/MoF/PAC Member – Ministry of Forestry) and Niken Sakuntaladewi (NAC Indonesia member) and prof. Dr. forests. Muhammad Alif KS., S.Hut., M.Si. (Chief in Editor of Forest and Society, Faculty of Forestry, Unhas).
Starting the activity, Editor in Chief of the Forest and Society Journal, Faculty of Forestry, Unhas, Prof. Dr. forests. Muhammad Alif KS., S.Hut., M.Si. in his introduction said that currently the Forest and Society Research Group (FSRG), Faculty of Forestry Unhas in collaboration with the University of West Sulawesi, Payopayo School of People’s Farmers (SRP), Research Institute for Humanity and Nature (RIHN)-Japan, and East-West Center / University of Hawaii at Manoa, USA are carrying out research entitled Fair for whom? Comparing politics, power, and precarity in transformations of tropical forest-agriculture frontiers in Southeast Asia (Indonesia chapter) through the EXPLORE Program funded by RECOFTC-SIDA.
“In connection with this research program, the Director of RECOFTC Thailand, David Ganz and his staff including Bambang Supriyanto as the RECOFTC Advisory Board and while serving as Director General of PSKL, Ministry of Forestry visited Unhas and held a meeting with university leaders and the Unhas Forestry Faculty with the aim of discussing joint international research collaboration,” explained Prof. Alif.
On this occasion, the Deputy Chancellor for Partnership, Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Business Unhas, Prof. Dr. Eng. Adi Maulana, S.T., M.Phil. expressed his gratitude to the Director of RECOFTC Thailand, the Director of RECOFTC Indonesia and all RECOFTC staff for coming to Unhas to discuss potential research collaborations.
“It is an honor for us to have RECOFTC staff present both in Thailand and Indonesia. I really hope that Unhas and specifically the Faculty of Forestry can establish joint research collaborations on an international scale with RECOFTC,” explained Prof. Adi.
Furthermore, Prof. Adi said that Unhas was very open to opportunities for collaboration in the field of research that would be established with RECOFTC.
This meeting went smoothly and the RECOFTC team group will then visit one of the EXPLORE research locations in Tamalea Village, Mamuju, West Sulawesi to directly monitor research developments in the field as well as attend multi-party workshops and photovoice exhibitions on February 22 2025.
