Tamalanrea-Makassar. The Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University (Unhas) presented the design of the management plan for the arboretum land area in the Indonesian Capital City (IKN). The activity took place starting at 09.30 WITA in the Senate Meeting Room, 2nd Floor, Faculty of Forestry, Unhas Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar and was connected directly via zoom meeting, Monday (14/4/2025).
Present at this activity were the Chancellor of Unhas (Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc.), Dean of the Faculty of Forestry Unhas (Prof. Dr. Ir. A. Mujetahid M., S.Hut., M.P.), Deputy for Environment and Natural Resources of the IKN Authority (Dr. Myrna Asnawati Safitri, S.H., M.A.), Deputy for Planning and Land of the Authority IKN (Mia Amalia, S.T., M. Si, Ph.
Starting the activity, the Dean of the Faculty of Forestry, Unhas, Prof. Dr. Ir. A. Mujetahid M., S.Hut., M.P. In his speech, he said that this activity aims to convey the initial design of a land management plan for the establishment of an arboretum and try to implement approaches to where ITB and UGM are located.
“We are currently preparing and discussing the design of the initial plan for managing the land area and we need input from the deputy for environment and natural resources of the IKN authority and everything related to the management that will be carried out based on our proposal covering an area of 250 hectares,” explained Prof. Mujetahid.
Furthermore, Prof. Mujetahid said that although we proposed an arboretum, in discussions with the leadership and team, the function of the arboretum could be broader so that carrying out activities in the area given with an area of 250 hectares (ha) could be more flexible.
Chancellor of Unhas, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc. on this occasion said that he strongly supports the establishment of an arboretum and the management of the area given by OIKN to be managed. And immediately assigned a team from Unhas to conduct a survey or direct visit to IKN to see the area of land where the arboretum (Unhas Archipelago Forest) was formed under the name Ale’na Unhas.

In his presentation, he said that the establishment of the Ale’na Unhas arboretum aims to support improving the quality of the city’s environment by maintaining the balance of the ecosystem through providing green open space and becoming a center for ex-situ conservation of germplasm to support sustainable use.
Some of the functions of green open space are health, economic, social & educational, ecological and aesthetic, while conservation functions are biodiversity preservation, ecosystem protection, sustainable use, education and research, and utilization of environmental services.
“The block arrangement plan at Ale’na Unhas that will be arranged is the utilization block, genetic resources block, Wallacea local superior block, education & research block, local superior plant block, and natural succession and restoration block,” said Prof. Nope.
After explaining the formation of the Ale’na Unhas archipelago forest arboretum, the activity then continued with a joint discussion until 11.00 WITA.
