Tamalanrea-Makassar. The Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University, was the host for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (PPKS) outreach activities. The activity took place starting at 11.00 WITA in the 1st Floor Hall of the Faculty of Forestry, Unhas, Thursday (21/3/2023).
Starting the activity, the Dean of the Faculty of Forestry, Unhas, Dr. Ir. A. Mujetahid M., S.Hut., M.P., IPU. In his speech, he said that this activity was important to convey to lecturers, staff and students the importance of preventing sexual harassment and violence both inside and outside the campus environment.
“Seeing the conditions where there is a lot of sexual violence and this is very detrimental to those who are victims. I hope that this activity can be a way to prevent and avoid sexual violence in the campus environment,” said A. Mujetahid.
Furthermore, A. Mujetahid said that through this activity we can more or less provide an understanding to all of us that acts of sexual harassment and violence are acts that violate the law and have a negative impact both physically and psychologically on the victim.
Present as a resource person was Prof. Dr. Ir. Aslina Asnawi, S.Pt., M.Si., IPM, ASEAN Eng. in his material, he said that based on data from the Judical Research Society (JRS) and INFID 2020 in Indonesia, 33 percent of women experienced sexual violence and 90 percent experienced sexual harassment.
“Based on this data, the Unhas PPKS Task Force team anticipates, prevents and handles an increase in sexual violence and harassment in the campus environment so that they routinely carry out socialization activities to prevent and handle sexual violence against lecturers, staff and students,” explained Prof. Aslina.
Prof. Aslina said that the scope of sexual harassment and violence is actions carried out physically and non-physically (verbally, behavior, attitude, perspective and body language) and through technology and communication (articles 5 and 1).
Universities, in this case Hasanuddin University, have an obligation to prevent sexual harassment and violence, this is stated in article 6.
After presenting the material, the activity then continued with a discussion and ended with a group photo session.
